Plan review first
A Before You Dig Australia enquiry returns plans from the registered asset owners. Those plans vary in age, accuracy and completeness, and they do not cover private services at all. We read them properly and set the field work up accordingly, then report where the ground and the records disagree rather than quietly resolving the difference.
Electromagnetic locating
A signal is applied to a buried conductor and traced from the surface, by direct connection at an accessible point, by clamp around a cable or pipe, or by induction where no connection point exists. Passive modes pick up live power and radio frequency re-radiation.
Onsite marking
Detected services are marked along their alignment in the standard colour for each service type, with depths and service identification written up on site, so the information reaches the people holding the machine controls.
How it works with the rest
Locating is the first pass, not the whole answer. Electromagnetic tracing cannot see non conductive assets, which is where radar takes over, and a located mark stays an estimate until the service is physically exposed.
