How it works
Pressurised air or water breaks up the ground and the spoil is lifted into a tank, so material is removed without a blade or bucket contacting the service. It is the accepted way to dig around live electrical, gas, fibre and pressurised assets.
Why it matters
A located mark carries the tolerance of the method that produced it. Exposing the service is what lifts it from an estimate to a measured position, which is the difference between Quality Level B and Quality Level A information.
How it works with the rest
Potholing is directed by the locating and radar results so the hole goes down in the right place first time, and the exposed position is then picked up by survey.
